Pondering over the meaning of the Qur’an

All praises are for Allah who is the Lord of the worlds, the one who sent the prophets and the messengers specially our prophet, our master & our beloved Muhammad ibn Abdullah (Peace be upon Him), he sent him with the truth and the clear differentiating book (Qur’an). Allah all mighty says regarding the Quran, that it is such a book, which has no doubts in it, and it is a source of guidance for those who fear Allah.

As Muslims we can never ever reach the highest point in thanking Allah for his blessings. No matter how much we appreciate it yet we are always at all times indebted to Allah’s favors, us having the thought that we should glorify Allah and thank him is also through his infinite mercy. But what we can always do is follow Allah’s commandments and refrain from his disobedience. And how can we know and learn what is right & correct and how will we know what is incorrect is also through Allah’s favor that he revealed the Quran onto his beloved Messenger (Peace be upon Him).

If Allah wanted he could have detached us from this Quran & from this beautiful religion of Islam. Whilst the Quran was being revealed the companions of the messenger would act upon it and this would increase their Imaan, however now Allah has completed the religion and no more verses will be ever revealed so for us to act upon and have firm belief on the whole Quran is necessary. Now as we act upon this Quran & reform ourselves the quality of our Imaan will increase. This is what Allah has described in the Quran in Surat Al-‘Anfāl, ‘when our verses are recited to them, it increases them in Imaan and they have full reliance on Allah.

Now this should be our state when we hear the words of Allah as we know well that the Quran is the speech of Allah so we can imagine how powerful it is. If mankind was to understand its value then our lives would be filled with eternal peace, all issues we face whether it’s on a micro level or a macro level, the solution to it is in the Quran, all we have to do is understand it and pick them out by referring to authentic scholars and books. Allah ta’la mentions that do they not ponder over the Quran, if it was from other than Allah it would have many contradictions. This verse shows the excellence of this magnificent book. How accurate it is and how phenomenal it is.

There have been scholars who would cry over each verse for the whole night and they would repeat that verse over and over again. Because Allah has told us, in fact he has opened up everything for us, what we require in this life and the hereafter. If we look at the qualities of Allah in the Quran it may suffice us to reform ourselves for e.g. we see Allah says he is Merciful this will give us hope in Allahs mercy, then other places he mentions he is shadeedul ‘iqaab (gives severe punishment) so this will assist us in refraining from sins. The point I’m trying to make is that it will surely help one increase his taqwa and it will assist us for our day-to-day lives.

But for us to reach this state where we can learn from the Quran & derive lessons for our lives is through understanding the Quran. If one knows the Arabic language it would make it easier however we can all still know what the Quran is telling us and that is by taking help & assistance from the scholars of deen & reading authentic transactions and commentaries of the Quran. Also we need to have utmost respect for this beloved book, generally we tend to see that we only pick this book up once a year in ramadhan then again it sits on the shelf gathering.

If one doesn’t understand the Quran he’s still rewarded for reciting it, Subhan Allah how merciful is our Lord? Similarly who would reward us for taking the name of his enemy? Allah also rewards us each time when reciting Quran we say shaitaan. So there are many benefits in reciting the glorious Quran and understanding it. Such as we stay protected, there’s ease and peace in ones life, many illnesses are removed through persistently reading Quran and many more, and as Muslims we are instructed to recite the Quran in any case but on top Allah rewards us immensely.

So I ask Allaah Swt to instill the love of His magnificent book into our hearts and make us from those who learn nd benefit others and practice upon their knowledge.

Aameen summa Aameen .. <3
