3 Types of Hearts- Part 1

Bismillah

The heart is a magnificent organ. Not only is it a vital organ, a physical entity, but also a source of judgment and wisdom providing a balance between thought and action. We are who we are through our actions and our actions are based on which heart we carry. There are 3 types of hearts, the healthy heart, the dead heart and the sick heart. Which heart do you carry? Read and find out and see how your actions will change with every heartbeat.
O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers.
(Qur’an 10:57)
The Healthy Heart

The first heart being the heart which glows with every beat, its rhythmic beats seek only things that are pleasing to Allah Subhaana wa ta’aala.

· Free from desires

· Free from any doubts

· Relies on Allah (swt) alone

· Living, humble and gentle

· Only love for and fear of Allah Subhaana wa Ta’aala

· Loves that which Allah Subhaana wa Ta’aala loves

· Hates that which Allah Subhaana wa Ta’aala hates

“Only this heart will benefit on the Day of Judgment”. (Dr. Aisha Utz)

The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children, but only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart. (Qur’an 26: 88-89)

Our prophet Muhammad sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam would make a supplication for a healthy heart. He said:

“…O Allah! Wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from the sins as a white garment is cleansed of filth, and let there be a far away distance between me and my sins as You have set far away the East and the West from each other."
(Sahih al-Bukhari: Book 80, Hadith 72)

A healthy heart would find rest with remembrance of the Qur'an. Its issues will melt and nothing else would matter.

"Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah, hearts are assured."
(Qur’an 13:28)

One's skin would shiver and one's hair would stick up when reading the Qur'an.

Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver there from of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills.
And one whom Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide.
(Qur’an 39:23)

The Dead Heart

The second heart is a heart that carries darkness inside. It is poisoned with sin and worldly desires. Its only love is for itself.

· Ignorant

· Neither knowing its Lord nor worshiping Him

· Follows his desires

· When hearing of Allah (swt) or the Qur'an its heart reacts with disinclination

And when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion, but when those [worshipped] other than Him are mentioned, immediately they rejoice. (Qur’an 39:45)

“This heart is blind & deaf; their authority of reason & perception are dead.” (Dr. Aisha Utz)

Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil.
And for them is a great punishment. (Qur’an 2:7)

When a person sins, his heart spoils. Similar to when a person smokes, he leaves his heart stained until the entire heart is infected. A dead heart could only be purified through repentance.

No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
(Qur’an 83:14)

People tend to think that small sins could do no harm; however like building a fire, it is the small sticks that start the fire. Small sins, like lying, are just as dangerous.

Malik related to me that he heard that Abdullah ibn Masud used to say, "The slave continues to lie and a black spot grows in his heart until all his heart becomes black. Then he is written, in Allah's sight, among the liars."(Al-Muwatta 56:18)

The dead heart does not even soften from the fear of Allah; it plays no affect whatsoever. Allah speaks of how even the stones fall from high above due to the fear of Allah yet the dead heart does not even quiver.

Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah.
And Allah is not unaware of what you do. (Qur’an 2:74)
