3 Types of Hearts- Part 2

Bismillah

In part 1 of this topic, we discussed two types of hearts: the Healthy Heart and the Dead Heart. In this continuation, we will explore the Sick Heart and ways to keep a sound heart inshaAllah.
The Sick Heart

This heart is the most common heart there is. This heart is stuck in between the first two hearts.

· Contains the love for Allah Swt

· Faith in Allah Swt
· Trust in Allah Swt

· Love of vain desires

· Love of this world

This heart gains weakness with every sin, similar to a virus on a computer. Once it gets infected it grows weaker until it eventually becomes a dead heart, if not purified through repentance.

How to keep a sound heart

· Do not talk too much!

Ibn 'Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:"Do not talk too much without remembrance of Allah. Indeed excessive talking without remembrance of Allah hardens the heart. And indeed the furthest of people from Allah is the harsh-hearted."
(Hasan)(At-Tirmidhi: vol.4, book 10, hadith 2411)

· Do not laugh a lot!

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,
"Laugh little. Much laughter kills the heart."
(Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 252)

· Do not focus on riches of this dunya.

Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) had said:
Richness does not lie in the abundance of (worldly) goods
but richness is the richness of the soul (heart, self).
(Sahih Muslim: book 12, hadith 157)
· Do not put to action the whispers in the heart.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (pbuh) said,
"Allah has accepted my invocation to forgive what whispers in the hearts of my followers,
unless they put it to action or utter it."
(See Hadith No. 657 Vol. 8)(Sahih al Bukhari: book 49, hadith 13)
Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Allah forgives my followers those (evil deeds) their souls may whisper or suggest to them as long as they do not act (on it) or speak."
(Sahih al Bukhari: Vol. 8, Book 78, hadith 657)

With this being said, may we all work towards a healthy heart and like our prophet Muhammad sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam supplicated for a healthy heart, we too must pray and act towards this and not let arrogance get the best of our souls. Ask yourself which heart do you have and how will you help to strengthen your heart to either stay healthy or become healthy. Above all, Allah knows best...
